I'm pricing an athlon system up at the moment, but a company i approached advised against building any AMD system to run games on!! They said they have loads of problems still and there is quite a few patchs required to use them propery.

quote " there's 101 patches, and AMD are more interested in speed thay quality"

Is this true??

They said to run windows etc... they are fine but gamers should use Intel P3 systems for stability!!

I was looking at using the FIC AD11 motherboard and the T-bird 1gig CPU with pc133 ram. what do u guys think of that combo???

Any advice would be great. Should i go Intel or AMD?? I can only afford about 700 to 800MHz in the P3 system.

Thanx - RobUK

He must have a larger profit margin on the Wintel than the AMD. I have a AMD 900@1050 gaming machine that runs RC5 24/7 while gaming even. Never stumbles and never had any problems with setup after I figured out the RAID difficulty with SB LIVE cards.
I remember a few months ago when Intel had a problem with the ?820? chipset but that has been solved. If you want the biggest bang for the buck get AMD.

that guy sounds like he just wanted to discourage you from buying an AMD and trying to get you to get an Intel

Best bang for your buck and tons of fun too: Go AMD! I have a 600E PIII and just left a 1.2Ghz Thunderboard (Iwill KK266 board) to 1.33 Ghz T-Bird on another Iwill mobo. Keep them cool (AMDs), use heatsink/fan assemblies on cpu with a TRIPLE TAB CLIP (FOR EXAMPLE - TAISOL Model CGK760092 Forged Aluminum Heatsink with Copper Insert 60x10mm 21 CFM Fan low noise WITH Triple-tab Clip) and you're in business. Having used both brands, I think Intel is a "safer" brand, i.e., less horse to saddle and harness the power of, but for the reasons stated above, AMD.

Good luck!
