on my second pentium 1(200mmx-windows-millenium- i suddenly have no more access to the internet via cable(ethernet-card). but everything is ok when i deactivate firewall.
i have the same entries in firewall-settings like inmy working pc.
these are my observations:
1. i have left the pc for several hours when it was still online. later i recognized that firewall was deactivated! i think i must install a very loud sirene!

2. when checking everything seem to be ok.

i check firewall -settings. pc 1(working) had additional firewall-programm in the settings. i still do not understand why. i deleted this-maybe this was wrong, but i have still internet-access. pls explain why i need this.
on pc 2(internet not working) i do not have this firewallprogram set in the settings.
btw: on pc1(internet ok) i have additional symantec nav emailprotection automatic setting.
maybe this was set when i tested the new security advice(which did not work) described in http://www.grc.com

the main curious fact is showing an intel dc 21140 pc fast ethernet adapter when using winipcfg command.
but i have an smc 9322bdt ehternet card 100/10

i replaced it and deleted all setting in system and network and reconfigurated, nothing helped.

i will now run a new av-test, although it was made 1 day ago.

do you know what board i am using now.: my beloved ga-5aa( a pentium 1-board) with p166mmx. is working and worked allday and night long since 2 1/2 years. no problems at all. ok i killed printer-controller. not gigabytes fault!
I LOVE GIGABYTE UNTIL THE OPPOSITE IS PROVEN .
& BPB- he is a helper with a lot of patience. more of such people and freedom is near.

update:
the latest actions/observations are:
i have seen multiple entries in network: the two mentioned ethernet cards(non existing intel dc 21140 and the real existing card plus the tcp/ip-entries for both.

i have tried using intel alone but after deleting my real card windows has found it again and reinstalled after reboot. i have now deleted the non-existing intel dc 21140, but i still have no interent-access when firewall is acrivated.

i will now check google-search and other forums and if no solution, reinstall firewall.

Hi there.

As I could understand from your post, you got two machines
that has cable internet connection. How are these machines
hoocked up to the net? Two separate cabels?
One machine with two network cards and a local lan and
a 'bridge' to the external card? Ip-Sharing?

if it would be important i had mentioned it: the machines are independant. one single pc online at one time, just switching the cable from one to the other. no router(could this be a security problem?)
ok, thats how i solved the problem:
keep in mind: winipcfg showed an inexistant adapter card, all other setting are correct. i could not enter internet when firewall was activated. i didnt reinstall firewall to check because i knew i had to get rid of that wrong entry. also replace and reinstall the right network-card ethernet didnt work. then i had a flash-idea. wasnt this genious? i replaced the formerly working card with a completely new one, run nsworks and now i have a perfect firewall and security and internet access.then new card is a net easy by d-link called drn-32tx. it has a cd which you will probably only need due to the manual which is in written form too(very thick). why? the drivers are on the windows-cd. manual is eccellent( a lot of languages) and card cost only 12 usd.
