i have a pIII 550, 320mb ram, 20gig, ect

i used to run 98se but i got alot of errors, but it ran pretty fast.

no i run xp pro, i don't get man errors, but it runs kinda slow.

if i did total factory restore, formated the HD, and installed 98se back on, do you guys think i would still get tons of "this program has performed an illegal opperation, and must be shut down" errors?

All the pc's I have installed XP on , old or new , ran faster regardless of ram count. And none have want to go back to their old OS.
What do you mean by "kinda slow"? Maybe you just need to tweak things a bit.

As to the restore question ... the system will run exactly like it did when you got it.

In XP, go to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance and turn off the "eye candy". That should speed things up.

Yah WinXP will run slower, but it will run - Win98 will crash.
