Last Christmas I put together a system for my wife, Abit BX-133 RAID with a P-III 800EB, and it works fine. From the outset, though, the blasted case I bought has had this horrendously noisy power supply. I'm asking for suggestions on how to quiet this beast. I'm willing to replace the PS fan, the PS or even the whole case. If anyone knows of a quiet fan, a quiet PS or a quiet case, I would like to hear from you. The case needs to accomodate three HDDs, two CD-ROMs and a floppy.

Also, the CPU was boxed so it came with the default Intel cooling fan. I don't really know how much noise IT makes but if anyone can suggest a quiet CPU fan, I would appreciate knowing about that, also.

If I were you, I'd invest in an Enermax whisper power supply. Those things are quiet, and you can keep your case.

I wonder if there is some type of noise dampening material that can be applied to the inner walls and such that would dampen the sound and vibrations?
I guess it would have to be a material that would be SAFE to use.
Just wondering.
Just a little bit of an idea.

Try loosening the screws on the fan just a little bit for the ps first, that worked for me. When they were tight, it torqued the plastic around so that it made the bearing noisy.

http://www.koolance.com/ has a great setup for a true noise hater, 3 40mm fans cool everything, including the PSU.

I`ve just ordered 4 Papst Ngl 12db 33m^3/ 19,1cfm fans and am going to use them here:

1 as Cardcooler (GF2)with selfmade mounting
1 as powersupply fan
1 as cpu fan with adapter 60 - 80mm
1 as extra case fan.

That will totally be 18db theor. and costs me about 80$. In my opinion the best choice if you want a quiet pc without paying too much.

I just installed a enermax Model EG365P-VE(FC) and it isn't quiet like I expected. It has two fans, one in back and one in the case at the bottom. I thought that if the computer wasn't used it would slow down the fan speed accordingly. If it does it must only do that to the lower fan because it stays running all night at full speed.
I did connect it to the fan monitor on the mobo like it says.
Am I missing something or is this right?
