My pc started acting strange lately, so i backup up everything important.
The pc started crashing, BSOD.
Re-booted once by itself
A: drive in my computer appeared as a removable disk drive, would not register disk in it.
CD-Rom did not register at all.
When i entered bios, the A: was not installed, so i reinstalled it. Boot back into windows and the A: was back as before.
Entered bios again and guess wat.... it was not installed.
So i decided to re-format the harddisk, i was going to do it before this happened. When i partitioned it and turned pc off and switched back on, the pc would not boot windows and a german fault appeared on screen. All it said was system fault in german
Any ideas?
I thought the cmos battery but it is stuck onto mobo, unable to remove it.
Problem now is the mobo is dead i think, no life at all

unplug everything except for the power supply connector to the mobo, see if the fan spins, check your cables, check your voltage switch in the back of psu.check the outlet.
If you get the fan to spin plug in one thing at a time and reboot each time. try another psu if you have alot of periphs attached check on the psu rating may need a bigger one.
Another way to clear cmos is to locate the clear cmos jumper, usually located near the battery. Place the shunt onto the other set of jumpers for 5 or 20 minutes and then replace and reboot. Just a few hints..

Sure sounds like the bios battery to me...or could be a shorted capacitor (unlikely) in the battery circuit.
Been a loooong time sence I have seen a mobo that had a soldered in battery.

ok!
Thank you all for your suggestions.
I remembered that i placed the BIOS jumpers on clear. I replaced them to save and the system boot up reconfigured the memory, but said there was a floppy error, i left the floppy off and went into the BIOS. The floppy was already uninstalled.
When i rebooted the machine the memory reconfigured itself, but then there was a memory error.
I will try disconnecting everything except the PSU and memory. Reconnect one at a time, also i am unable to remember how to get the safe mode screen, wat button do i press?
Many thanks and any suggestions are appreciatted.

Without your system specs it's tough to narrow everything down post your operating system and all other info on the system.
I think it would either be f5 or f8 to get to safe mode upon bootup. What type of error message are you getting for the memory...??????

Ok, i solved it.
My system is up and running now.
It was a mixture of pc problems and my own errors, due to the fact the i am still learning all this.
After clearing the CMOS, i left the jumper on CLEAR. Hence the reason for no mobo activaty.
The reason i was getting the error msg during boot: After the initial partitioning i forgot to re-format the partitions, so the system would not recognise the drives.
The disk drive problem i was having was due to the connector not fully seated into the onboard controller.
To top the lot of i forgot to reconnect the CD-ROM connector.
I know that all the problems i was having after clearing the CMOS were due to myself, however i must admit i have learned a great deal this weekend.
And this is all a learning process for me.
I am currently re-installing the O/S and am sure i will have plenty more fun along this fantastic journey which i am on.
Thank you all again for your help.

Congratulations KenPRowen. I'm glad you got everything straightened out. Learning is the best part, for me it has been a constant learning experience since the day I started, and continues to be everyday. Enjoy yourself and welcome to the club, if you care to consider it that. I know the feeling, be proud of yourself.... good luck.:t
