When I went to my local PC parts dealer, I asked him if he had a motherboard to support a 1.3 GHz Celeron cpu. He recommended that I purchase the ECS P6S5AT motherboard. When I started to assemble the computer I noticed in the motherboard's user manual that this board states that it supports FCPGA Celeron and FCPGA Pentium III CPUs including the newest Tualatin CPUs. It also states that the motherboard supports 66MHz, 100MHz, and 133MHz Front-Side Bus speeds. It says it does not support PPGA Celeron CPUs, whatever they are? Further in the manual some conflicting information is provided. It states that this motherboard currently supports FCPGA Celeron: 533-800 MHz, FSB: 66 MHz (nothing about a 1.3 MHz Celeron with 100 MHz FSB), and FCPGA Pentium III: 500-1130 MHz, FSB: 100 MHz, 133 MHz. The manual and the ECS website say nothing about the CPU voltage range supported by this motherboard. Will it support 1.5 volt Core Voltage of my CPU? Also, the manual says nothing about supporting package type FC-PGA2, which is what my CPU is.

My CPU is a 1.3 GHz Celeron, 100 MHz FSB, sSpec Number: SL6C7, package type: FC-PGA2, L2 Cache Size: 256K, L2 Cache Speed: 1.30 GHz, Bus/Core Ratio: 13.0, Die Size: 0.13 micron, and has a Core Voltage of 1.5V. Can anyone tell me if this CPU is going to work in the ECS P6S5AT motherboard the vendor sold me? I am afraid to power up the system for fear of burning out the CPU.

I'm a little confused and could use some advice. Help!

Yes, it will.

The "T" in P6S5AT denotes Tualatin support, which allows the .13-micron celeron and PIIIs to be run in it, all the way up to 1.4GHz. It utilizes the SiS 635T chipset, which can run both coppermines (FC-PGA package) and tualatins (FC-PGA2 package). ;)

BTW If the board did not support the CPU, it would just power up and not boot -- no hardware damage would occur.

I wish to thank you for replying to my thread and the information you provided. I saw the "SiS 635T" chipset designation, but didn't realize what it stood for. Thanks to you I now know. Again, thank you very much.

I don't build many systems, usually 5-6 a year for friends and family, and it is hard to keep up with all the new CPUs and chipsets. This ECS P6S5AT motherboard looks pretty straignt-forward, and I am looking forward to configuring and running it until I turn it over to my friend's son.

I am also building one for his father with an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard, and the installation of its' motherboard drivers is giving me a fit. The nForce Control Panel doesn't want to install and I can't get any sound out of the DVD drive with a DVD video disk--an audio CD plays just fine. Half the time the driver installation fails, or if it completes, it causes the system to become sluggish, and doesn't completely install all the drivers. I'm hoping I can get the system configured this weekend. I have to go back to school next week. I've been toying with the idea of going to the NVIDIA website and using their drivers on the ASUS motherboard, but I'm not sure if thats a good idea.

Anyway, thank you very much for your help with the ECS motherboard information. Bye.
