I finally have DSL available in my area and am considering it. First what do I need to provide to get hooked up to it? What should the phone company supply? Finally is 96Kbps upload and 256k download speed good for DSL? Thanks

basically, you just need an ethernet card (aka nic, lan card).

You need to contact your prospective ISP about purchasing or leasing a modem. some ISPs will give you a modem for free.

256k line is probably the basic service. it's pretty standard.

You may want to check out if cable modem service is available in your area. they are better bang for the buck. With ADSL you need to pay for the ISP and the DSL line itself. Over here, it costs almost twice as much as cable for basic service.

Thanks Midknyte for the Info. Yes the 256k is the basic service. As for the cable, yes definately that would be my first choice, but where I live I,m lucky a dish will work. For TV a dish is ok. For me right now a dish isn't the way to go for a computer.
