I just built a Win2k box for my bro, and when we shut down it gives that "it is now safe to shut off your computer". I have never actually seen this screen on a Win2k box before, normally it just powers down as it should. I checked power settings in control panel and the disabled/enabled the bios power manangement. This is a brand new ATX case. Any other ideas?

Was power management (ACPI support) enabled in the BIOS before you installed Windows 2000? At least one book I read had that as a requirement. You might also check to see if there is a newer version of the BIOS available.

There is a registry hack for this, private email me and I will send you the MS Knowledge base article.

Shut down does not turn off computer:

If the APM mode is enabled go to the device manager and from the view menu
select "show hidden devices". NT APM/legacy support should appear. Just
enable it and hopefully your problem will be solved (it did work in my
case).
