Hi,
I have a Siemens Nixdorf PCD 5H with D842 motherboard, 32mb RAM and 1GB HDD.
In the BIOS, there is no possibility of selecting the drive as CD-ROM. If I select AUTO, the Fixed disk error is coming when booting. So I've tried to install the cd-rom drive without any BIOS settings in Win 95.
Is the BIOS settings is a must to use a cd-rom drive in Win 95 ?.
If there is no option to set a cd-rom drive in BIOS pl suggest the ways to use the cd-rom drive in Win 95.
Thanks.

On older motherboards, set the CDROM position to NONE in BIOS setup. The BIOS will see it anyway.
You may need to install drivers for the CDROM in Win95. Who makes the CD drive? They should provide a CDROM setup for it.

The model no of the cd-rom drive is CMD 5211 and it is shown as OEM CD-ROM F566E in Win 2000, when I tested it in another PC.
The manufacturer name printed on the drive is BESTMAX CORPORATION, Hong kong. I can't find any web support for this drive.
I got no driver disk as it is an OEM drive. Is there any driver for this drive.
Thanks.

If the drive is not showing up in Windows and the BIOS is seeing it, it's probably defective.
Will another drive work?

Windows 95 does not require drivers for CD drives.
In the BIOS, do not set it to NONE or else it will disable that IDE port. You should set it to AUTO then it will be detected and Windows will see it.
