why does win2k uses the same "program files" directory win9x does?

Why not? Where else are you gonna put program files except under a directory called Program Files?

LOL. I guess MS wanted to be consistent. Are you dual booting? If so you can put one OS on D:\ partition and segregate your programs that way.
