A mate of mine is thinking about geting a new motherboard but doesn't know whether its worth going for a board that supports the new DDR memory or not. The prices of the DDR mem in the UK at the moment are actually lower than the 133Mhz mem, so whats that all about?! Is there something i'm not seeing here? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

If prices of DDR so much low there - go for it. In some situations, you'll be noticing 5-15% boost, anyway, it's always a good thing to go up with the technology.
Just be sure to get PC2100 CAS2.5 memory, of a good brand, don't touch PC1600, it's useless and even PC133 scores higher.

Best Regards ...

IA, the DDR memory differs from SDRAM in that systems that use it send a bit on the rising side and the falling side of each clock cycle, hence "double data rate".
Single data rate only does it on the rising side. If your mate doesn't know, you will not be able to interchange the two or use pc133 on his new board because the new ram is 184 pin vs.168 pin, and the new stuff has only 1 locating slot on it, so it will not go into a mobo designed for 168 pin PC100/133 memory.
Forgive me if I told you stuff you already know http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif If still interested, send him to www.crucial.com (http://www.crucial.com) They have PC2100 cas 2.5 memory pretty cheap now, varies from 115 to 120 dollars U.S for 256 meg modules.
