I just bought a T-bird 1ghz and an Abit KT7A-RAID mobo. I was wondering if a FOP38 would fit on this setup. Also is that a fan you would reccomend? One other thing. I see people here that always know what week their processor is made. How do ya'll know that?

Thanks

FOP38 is fine, fits OK in KT7A, I ordered Vantec HS/F (bigger HS) with same Delta 38 CFM fan.
Can't help you with date of processor production, don't know myself http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks ND, Ill check out that fan.

Challenger:

FOP38 should be more than adequate to cool your chip. I used the FOP32 but the noise was driving me nuts, and I understand the FOP38 is even louder! I'm constantly looking for alternative cooling sysems. A piece of advice: the socket "nubs" that the traditional fan/heatsink clamp onto are not designed for the amount of pressure used to squeeze the cpu to the heatsink. Look at your motherboard and see if there are 4 holes surrounding the cpu socket. If so, check out heatsink/fans that screw to the motherboard instead of the clamp on models that have been widely reported to snap off and break the socket "nubs!" See www.Swiftnets.com (http://www.Swiftnets.com) and the MC462 cooler. Quite innovative!

Good luck.

Pay attention to the posts regarding the noise from the FOP38, and make sure you can put up with it. A good alternative is the mini super orb by Thermatake. It cools very well with half the noise. I'm running it on a 1ghz clocked to 1442mhz, and it never get above 120f.
The date codes are the digits following the four letters in the second row of numbers. Example.....AXIA 0108 DPAW......equals week 8.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I forgot about the whole noise thing. I'll check the alternatives you gave me. It's good to know the week thing too.

edit: I checked my local places for the copper orb and they don't carry it. Is there a site you recommend?

Thanks

Are you using the FOP32-1? I've used four of them, and never had a single customer report a complaint--in fact, they are nearly silent.

Yeah the FOP32-1 is near silent. I had one then I upgraded the fan to that Delta so it's a FOP38 now. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Yeah the FOP38 is really loud. If you have a nice tightly sealed case it's not so bad. But if you're gonna leave it open then good luck. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I was doing that at one time but then I got adequate case cooling and exhaust. The FOP32-1 will work for what you want it for. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Maybe my FOP32 was louder than your's because my box wasn't sealed... Or I was spoiled by the stock fan that came with my PIII 600E heatsink. In any event, the Swiftech MC462 that's on its way to my crib comes with a real loud fan (46dbs, I think), so I'm changing the fan to one that runs 10 dbs quiter. At least I won't have that **** socket - busting tension clamp holding the cpu to my heatsink!

Oh, yeah! The FOP38 and the WBK38's both use the delta fan which are unbelievably loud in my opinion. If you can put up with the high-pitch noise, it's definetly the best CPU cooling solution I've used so far. I couldn't put up with the noise so I use a FOP32 on my dual setup. And let me tell you... FOP32 isn't exactly "near silent" either. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Thanks for the input guys. I'll do some more research. One more thang though. This is probably a stupid question but I just want to be sure. When a fan says it fits socket 462. That's socket A right?

Thanks
