this is alittle tricky to describe, so please have some patience with me. Thanks, here we go:
When i have my HD on my primary ata-66 channel, and my dvd on my secondary ata-66, i can enable DMA on my dvd no worries. But when i move my HD to my ata-100 controller, i no longer can have DMA enabled on my DVD drive, it keeps on unchecking itself.
To make things worse, i recently bought a yamaha 16x10x40 burner, when connecting it up to a ata-66 controller it works alright, i enabled DMA as recomended to do, rebooted, DMA stays checked, but the drive isn't detected or something, i.e. in system properties, the drive is present, but in my computer or any program the drive isn't there! Disable DMA and reboot and the drive is back in everything again.
Initially the drive was reading alright, just slow (was only doing DAE @ 8x, when it can do DAE @ 40x), i figured this is because of not being able to use DMA. But now i am having problems with the drive reading, whenever put a disc in it, the drive spins up, next minute the whole computer is going slow as, programs stop responding, and computer freezes. Funny thing is that the burner can burn 100% OK at anyspeed.
Burner was installed after a new format and windows install.
heres my specs:
1Ghz Tbird
128Mb PC133
GigaByte GA-7ZXR (2x ata66 2xata-100 with raid)
Seagate 20Gig ata-100 U Series 5
Panasonic 16x DVD (OEM)
Yamaha 16x10x40 (OEM)
Geforce2 PRO
Voodoo2 SLI (for glide support)
SB Live Value
SCSI card (for scanner only)
SMC NIC (for cable)
Running win98se, detonator 11.01's, using Click n Burn Pro and Acraptec Cd Creater 4 and Fast Audio Rip (Yamaha's software for 40x DAE made by Ahead).
I know this is kinda long winded, but please help me!
Thank you in advance
