Hello:
Does Windows XP have a program similar to "Fast Find" used in older Windows OS's? I have looked everywhere and can't understand the frequent hard drive access (about once per second) that occurs, even when I am not doing anything. Is this freqent access really necessary and if not, how can I shut if off?
Thanks!

If you have not shut down all the background service. Then you need to. Indexing service on XP is a big resource hog. That is probably doing the random access's you hear.
Here is a good site with directions to kill the unwanted background service.

You have two of each threads showing. How about deleting one of each.

Thanks for the help, Philip 1952!
I went to the Black Viper's Website, and it looks like a great source of info on Windows XP and other OS's. I'll have to spend some time studying it.
Also, I found out that by going to my User CP, I can access my subscriptions and delete the duplicate messages. I'm still not sure why that happen (probably some AOL glitch!).

If that was the only one AOL had there would be a lot of happy people in the world of internet access.
Doubles happen. I think just about every old timer here has had it happen at one time or another.
