i dunno if any of you saw this program on or not. it was sum sort of documentary like 20/20 or primetime or sumthing like that. i didn't get to see it, but i heard ppl talking about it. supposedly, the internet will be traveling thru electical wires. all you have to do is buy a box that plugs into the electrical socket in your house. and that's it! also, it supposed to be VERY VERY fast. does ne1 have any details on this and wut the connection type is called? im pretty sure it's still a ways off yet as far as when it's going to be released. i'm just kinda curious about it.

I read something of this in Discover or PopSci magazine, about how much faster it would be if the technology existed... but they said it was mere speculation. It would be pretty sweet, though! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

The technology does exits. When it will be implimented for the average user is anyone's guess. It uses the same basic tech. as DSL (broad band.)

I saw a product they have out now, that eliminates the need for network hubs and cards. You plug it into the wall, and it connects all your pc's together on a home network.

You say this technology exists?!?! I'm curious... do you know where I can get some more info about it?
Also, from what you know about it, can it be run on existing power lines?

tyeah, that's what the show was about, the technology is here already, but still may be too outpriced for the average consumer. lol, but who, at least in this forum, is "average" http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. that's why i wondered if anyone saw the show or not, cause i'd at least like to find sum info on it.
on the tv program, they showed one in actual use. if i knew wut the connection type was called i could at least do a search on it. but the ppl who saw the show didn't remember http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

When it gets implimented it will run on existing electrical wiring. The technology is almost the IDENTICAL to DSL. It runs on a different freq. than the other signals on the line. For instance : on a phone line the frequencies used are what the human ear can pick up (100Hz - 15KHz)... when DSL is introduced to the line the data is broadcast over the line @ about 20K...on power lines the current is a stable 60Hz @ 110v, the data xmsn can use any unused freq. For some where to get more specific info, take a look into BROAD BAND data transmision.
