AOE I ?

Hello there ,
I have trouble with AOE I , when playing with some guys I see they hit the numpad key : + then the game speed up , then after that they use numpad - for decrease the speed.Is it a cheat ? Because with these buttons I see they building and gathering resources very faster than me (we don't allow using cheat when playing) , I don't know why !?! We have the same start , the same bulding and gathering but have a difference with these key I mentioned.Could anyone gives me a hint ? Thanks :cool:
