Some days ago, one of my freinds told me something about overclocking plextor CR-R's. is this just some urban legend, or are you able to upgrade the firmeware so the burner supports higher speeds?

I have an old and trusted plextor (Caddy, 4x burn, 12x read), and he said it might be able to run at 6x instead.

Has anyone ever heard about that?

You can "overclock" some drives, you can find
out more here: http://www.cdrinfo.com/tips/hardware_oc.shtml
They don't seem to have anything for your
drive but you might find help elsewhere.

**** - the "overclocking" is done by shorting the "reserved" jumpers next to the digital audio out - this makes it run in UDMA-33 mode... Mine is a SCSI.

If you have an IDE burner, you might wanna check out the link.

Has anybody got any advise on how to make a SCSI Plextor 4x run any faster? Firmware upgrade? - I'll just chack their homepage.

I don't see how can this speed up the rate of recording. This only activates faster acces and less CPU overhead, right?

I don't really notice any difference.

The only "overclock" was when they started to use overburn in CD recording. That isn't o/c but you could call it tweaking just like in this case with UDMA. You only tweak your system so it runs smoother.

Oh, I forgot about that http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif . Sorry. But that still stands for that page on jumper setting.
