Reinstall XP clean, but update your BIOS first. Scan for viruses.

I hate the fact that the OS seems to do way to much hand holding and that it once again moves stuff around on you. However after a amount of time I have grown to like it and for me at least is very stable.

I still miss the manual configuration of stuff and hate the wizards that they have tacked on to even part of the OS, but for the most part they seem to work.

I have had hardware that the OS thought worked so it would not let me alter any of the settings.

Overall I am starting to like it because of the driver features.

I like XP. It is much "smarter" than previous Windows versions. Sure it has its issues, but I find them to be few and far between compared to ME or 98. If one can't get friendly with XP, Win2000 is an excellent alternative.:)

Nah, its a mobo problem in my case, for some unconfirmed but common reason XP dont seem to like my mobo and theres bene no fix issued. Still, not to worry it'll be going on the soon to be here a7n8x system, should make a refreshing (albeit temporarily) change from win 2k

98se and XP Pro as a dual boot on my main rig.

98 and XP Home as a dual boot on my second rig.

No problems with either system.:D

Kerepla, as for XP restarting on its own.
Right click My Computer, Properties, Click the Advanced Tab, Startup and Recovery click the Settings tab, Uncheck Automatic Restarts.

Since when with any M$ OS did everything run smooth?
It has its nuances, but in three different machinces I've built, ranging from an AMD K6-2 500, to an Athlon XP 1600+ DDR system, it runs the most error free.
Restarts are more likely related to BIOS setting, memory or CPU heat problems.

I've been using it since it's pre release versions and I still like it. Very few problems.

System 1: XPPro SP1, OC'ec XP2700+@2340mHz/EPoX 8K3A+/RAID-0
System 2: XPPro SP1, OC'ed P4 1.6A@2133mHz/Asus P4S533
System 3: XPPro SP1/W98se dual boot/OC'ed XP1800+@2000mHz/EPoX 8K5A2+

All XPPro partitions NTFS, W98se FAT32

All above absolutely stable, all running Seti@home commandline client 24/7. All PCs running ZAPro (latest rev.), all running NAV 2002; Via chipset mobos running latest 4-in-1s.

WinXP Pro has worked out extremely well for me. Excellent stability. Very satisfied.

PS: system 1 was migrated from W2K Pro (at work, migrated from W9x OS to WinXPPro, so I U/G'ed home PC from W2K to XP). Was otherwise satisfied with W2K Pro... also stable/solid.

Speaking of SETI@home, you should read THIS. (http://www.nexusmagazine.com/ParaSeti.html) Try reading it, I know it's kinda hardcore, but stick with it until you're done... ;)

XP is by far the best OS ms has came out with, hands down. Not all motherboards are optimal for it though.I've loaded it on probly 9 systems & a little more than half ran great. You have to work the bugs out like anything. When you buy a compaq or some preloaded commercial computer they test the scrap out of them b4 they put it out to market.

Yeah, despite my original slagging off, although i havent used XP on my own rib because i cant for some unknown reason, ive used it elswhere. And along with 2k MS should be applauded for a job well done. Stanle and very functional and still retaining the speed of the 9x series in games

Im a firm fan of 2k and as XP is more of the same with new looks i dare say i and when i get the thing working it'll be just as good

Hey!! XP Rocks!! I have installed it on 7 systems thus far with nothing but very minor glitches. I am currently running:
A. XP Pro on an ASUS P3C-D dually, 800 mhz 133fsb PIII's, tons of programs, McAfee On Line Virus Scan, all topped off with 512mb RDRAM.

B. New unit built for wife is on an ASUS P4 Terminator (Sis chips), XP Home, the usual home graphics, scanner, printers, 512 mb DDR, running P-Cillin 2002, etc.

C. My main machine is on the MSI 6398 845 Ultra mobo XP Home, with dual 40gb Maxtor 7200rpm ATA 133' on the RAID (2+0) side, 768mb DDR, 30gb Seagate on the IDE Circuit.
As you can imagine, it is decked out with USB 2.0, 2 CD-RW's and THREE Burner software packages, Roxio, Nero and NTI CD Maker.

My point is not to impress, just to show that XP is really the closest thing to an unbeatable, flexible system!! Clean install, PLEASE!!

WinXP is alright for me. I have been running XP Pro for just over 1 month now and it hasn't proven to be any better than Win2k (yet), but then again I ran Win2k on other systems in the house for well over a year. I haven't been able to get the most out XP Pro personally yet because of HDD issues, but little by little I like it more.

My uncle was having trouble with his WinXP Home laptop and when we reinstalled WinXP Pro onto it, as of now, he has not had any problems AT ALL. He is very pleased with WinXP Pro. I'm sure I will be someday also. As of now I still favor Win2k.
