ok here is the question i have im running win2k and have noticed in my device manager that some of my Devices are useing the same IRQ..im wondering if i can get better preformance if they were on their own IRQ.and if so how can i change it? my IRQs are set as follows

IRQ/DEVICE

0/system timer (of course)
1/keyboard
6/Floppy contoller
8/CMOS clock
9/Microsuck ACPI- compliant system
13/numeric data processor
14/PRI IDE
15/SEC IDE
btw all these devices have ISA listed out next to them

7/3com NIC
7/Nvidia Geforce DDR
7/VIA USB controller
7/Sblive

now my main concern is this i want my Vid and NIC and SOUND card to use seprate IRQ how can i achieve this??as you can see i have a few IRQ left over not being used.alos i disabled Serial and paralle ports.any help would be mch apprecitaed

Thanx alot guys you ahve yet to let me down

How do u assign IRQ for each device ? Do it at where? IF the device have been installed and using the same IRQ. How do we change it so that they will use the different one.

You don't have to worry about your IRQ's unless they are in some conflict with other devices. All here listed in your post is just OK. Even if you assign every single device on it's own you'll see about no difference. Shared resources are in most cases just to save resources for some other devices like NICs or something else. I've tamperred with them for my school project like a year before and my final results were not at all like I though. I presumed that with each device with its own interrupt will boost some more from the old trashcan but it doesn't do anything specific.
e.g.Your soundcard and network card can be on shared IRQ because they don't constantly request CPU to stop for their data so they are swapping in regular time intervals which depend on what do you do.

lai918, win95/98/ME/2000 use Device Manager for IRQ assigning but your Windows will automaticly reassign them almost always (if your card is Windows95/98 supported) perfectly. NT calls it Hardware Manager.
