Like a lot of people, I know just enough to build informational websites for friends/family and small businesses. But, thus far, I've "only built" the sites (originally using Net Objects Fusion and now Macromedia Studio MX) and that was it. Now I've been asked by a small non- profit business to build a site from scratch and to also find a webhost for publishing, etc.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out what all of my options are for finding web hosting/publishing? How do I find all the available options for puslishing a site? How do I find out what kind of functionality each offer (i.e. what kind of backend services offered for interactive sites), etc.?

Thanks for any insight. :)

any good host will list all of their services on their website. Typically if you want more highend features like Chillsoft ASP you pay more for it or if you need dedicated hosting.

Look for good hosts, ask for websites of clients on their servers, ask questions. See the types of plans they offer and read the technologies they support.

Test the service by asking questions via email and see how good a response you get.

Check their uptime and check to see how often they upgrade their servers.

Basically do your homework.
