Finally, I almost have enough money to start building a new computer! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif I won't build it all at once though, I'll start with a new cpu and mobo to replace my k6-3+, use the rest of its parts and slowly replace them all until I have a complete new system. I was looking at parts, and found these good deals on a AMD Duron 750mhz (http://www.gpscomputersvcs.com/amddur750oem.html) , Abit KT7A (http://www.gpscomputersvcs.com/abkt7aamdsoc.html) , Ram (http://www.memplus.com/shop/SearchResults.asp?ProdStock=880333) and
case (http://electroseller.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=electroseller&Product_Code=4385&Category_Code=003) . Are these good products and is there a chance they will overclock well? About the Abit KT7A, it doesn't appear to support 133/266mhz FSB, or does it? Can anyone recommend a good alternative? Any input would be appreciated.

I just can't wait! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Finally getting tired of socket 7 araaraara http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

The KT7A does support 133MHz. You can't go wrong here. I've got the KT7, it's predecessor, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I think the only issue this board had was a lack of on-board audio and that some large heatsinks like the chrome orb didn't fit without some modifications. But I don't use (yuck) on-board audio nor do I use a chrome orb. As for other mobos... i haven't tried them, but I hear the epox 8KTA3 is a nice alternative. It too has a 6/1/1/0 PCI/AGP/ISA/AMR layout. If you're using a hardware ISA 56K modem, that ISA slot is priceless. Plus it does have on-board audio if you're into that.

That's a great price for a duron 750! Almost all of them overclock to 900. If you're going to be overclocking, might as well get the cheapest duron you can find.

Nice price on the RAM too. If you really want to splurge here, you could try Kingmax PC150 RAM.

Good luck with your upgrade!

I thought they released the KT7A specifically because the KT7 didn't support 133mhz FSB. Do some do it? I'd be very interested as I have a KT7 and haven't tried yet as I heard none can do it.

I'm building a system with a Duron 750, Iwill KK266, Memman Mosel Vitelic RAM, Global-Win 802 case, Toshiba DVD, Teac FDD, Western Digital HDD, etc.
The Duron 750 is the first thing I ordered, April 13, 2001, from GPS, was billed on April 16, 2001. (I wanted a retail processor.) Everything else has come in so yesterday I called GPS. (Third call, finally got an answer.) GPS said they were "backlogged" with orders, mine might ship out by the end of the week. GRRRR!!!
I was writing a comment for Reseller Ratings when, lo and behold, I received my e-mail shipping confirmation, within an hour of my phone call! Complete with tracking number, my order is on its way.
I was hesitant to buy OEM stuff, but, the HDD and DVD pieces that I ordered from newegg.com were fresh and well packaged, and the prices and shipping speed were excellent.
My 2 cents..

According to the manual(KT7/KT7-RAID) the FRT Bus has 28 settings in the Bios:

x5 x5.5 x6 x6.5 x7 x7.5 x8 x8.5
x9 x9.5 x10 x10.5 x11 x11.5 x12
x12.5

100/33 101/33 103/34 105/35 107/35
110/36 112/37 115/38 117/39 120/40
122/40 124/41 127/44 133/44 136/34
140/35 145/34 150/37 155/38

I have not finished putting this together for my son but, SOON! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/redface.gif

Well, now I'm not so sure which motherboard to choose. There are so many! Could someone please point me to some reviews of each, and maybe some comparisons? I'm also thinking about getting a cheaper motherboard. ~$140US is a little much. On the weekend I'm going to check around town for parts. Maybe someone out there can recommend a motherboard with the following:

Socket A
DDR FSB, Chipset and CPU
Lots of multilpier, fsb and voltage settings.
Bios CPU setup if possible
1 APG slot
At least 3 PCI slots
2 ISA slots, unless it has built-in sound.

I'm selling my brother's friend my old Cirrus Logic PCI 1meg 2D card for $50C. It'll probably get me a mouse and keyboard, and maybe a case.

I have the KT7 and it has worked very well from the start. I also have the 750 Thunderbird and it is running now at 900 MHz but I am sure it could go higher if I had some better cooling inside and it was only myself using the machine. I will probably see what it can do in the next couple of months as I would like to hit the 1 GHz mark.

I think that I'll go with the Epox 8KTA3. Does anyone know of a site that will ship to Canada? I'll pay up to $115US for it-the price I have seen it for at many sites.

Ok, I've decied to go AV7 133. Is the 200/266mhz FSB DDR?

I know the KT7 has the setting for 133mhz FSB but I heard it had stability problems at that setting. I'll look further into it.

The epox board does not have any isa slots.
