or what would it take? i have nero 5 and acraptec5(roxio) as well. thanx fer any tips

Find out where it is stored...usually in a music directory or in the largest game file.

For example, in Quake3, it is stored in the pak0.pak file, and can be opened manually with winzip. ( It's pretty cool music ).

Well...for most, I usually pull from the installation directory files after a full install. Never tried from the CD.

I would say look for MP3 ( which is what Q3A uses ) or WAV files.

SOME games CDs are in fact mixed mode CDs, with track1 as the d8a and subsequent tracks are regular CD audio. Obviously, this only applies to background music, rather than effects sounds.

Carmageddon and WipeOut 2097 are like this and you can play them (apart from track1) in a regualr music CD player.

If you can do this, then you can extract the files easily on your PC and do what you like with them http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Games' inside music also can be saved in WAV format, like in N.O.L.F, or in UMX format, as it's in Unreal/UT, or kind of MIDI files, like in all the DOOM series http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
In that case, so called "Rippers" are availble, they will scan given file and extract every usable contant, like GIF/BMP/PCX/JPG image, MOV/AVI sequence, or WAV/MP3 sound files, in your case. Best source I know is MAZ Home (http://www.maz-sound.com/) , look under "File Rippers", I recommend Multi Ripper 2.7 (http://www.maz-sound.com/archives/mrip270.zip) , pretty outdated but still does the job ...
