I don't know if you know, but there is a new and better format available for compressed music files out there that is like MP3 and is called VQF. This new format produces files that are around 25% smaller and better sounding than mp3. If you are interested and want more info, check out www.vqf.com. (http://www.vqf.com.)

VQF isn't new, it came out few months after the MP3 format, I read once some really deep article about the whole algorightm, and it doesn't seem to be any better then MP3.

If you're interested in compression (saving space) then stick with MP3. If you're interested in audio quality then your only choices are to stick with the original uncompressed WAV or use a lossless compressor, like Monkey's Audio (http://www.monkeysaudio.com/) ...
Monkey’s Audio is a fast and easy way to compress digital music. Unlike traditional methods such as mp3, ogg, or lqt that permanently discard quality to save space, Monkey’s Audio only makes perfect, bit-for-bit copies of your music. That means it always sounds perfect – exactly the same as the original. Even though the sound is perfect, it still saves a lot of space. (think of it as a beefed-up Winzip™ for your music) The other great thing is that you can always decompress your Monkey's Audio files back to the exact, original files. That way, you'll never have to recopy your CD collection to switch formats, and you'll always be able to recreate the original music CD if something ever happens to yours.
