I would like to use a joystick(Wingman Force 3D) as a replacement for all mouse controls in BF 1942. You can map some actions to the stick, such as flight controls, but I cannot figure out how to change it for all head movements and turret movements, for instance.

Would disabling the mouse allow me to install a joystick as a "mouse?"

I'm at a bit of a loss.

I'm running Win2K if that makes any difference.

Thanks

I don't think joystick support is available for the infantry, just vehicles.

Even if it would work in the tank, that would be better. With an optical mouse rotating left right is somewhat difficult. Sometimes the turret just goes beserk if I try to rotate it too fast.

are you playing with the newest patch?, I noticed improvements with basically everything after 1.2, including controls.

I'll have to check which patch I have installed but it is fairly recent and I just got the game to work after the holidays. Unless they have added a new patch since, then I think that I have installed the latest one.

ANother thing maybe you should just turn down the sensitivity of your mouse if your getting serious control problems in the tank I've never encountered them.

I tried using a joystick for tanks and while the joystick is unmatched in planes, I couldn't drive worth a **** in a tank with my joystick.

I quickly switched the tank and other land vechile controls to keyboard/mouse. But thats just me :D

I'll have to play with the mouse sensitivity or try somwthing else because it's getting really frustrating when I move fast and the view is 10,000 miles an hour in some other direction.

Maybe I'll try a trackball.

what you have to remember is that the turrets don't move as fast as if your a soldier, the turret speed has a maximum speed, if you go to fast then your going to overshoot everytime, slow it down and be patient with your shots, if you in Cali, look for me using ASE my tag is mad_alien. Lates

I've had it happen in soldier mode where the screen when in crazy directions, usually in the opposite direction I'm trying to go. I think it has to do with the way I move the optical mouse.

I'll be gunning for ya mad_alien.

Stupid Q? What is ASE?

ASE stands for the all seeing eye. It's a browser for finding servers for a number of games, works waaaayy better than the in game browser for BF1942, it's free, if you reegister it you get some other benifits, after you get used to it you'll see why, you can get a lot more info about servers and stuff like that from it, plus it's more streamlined, here's the link:

Give it a try, and look me up.
