Has anyone gone from a 5400 quantum fireball to the new 7200 fireball Plus KA? I'm curious if i'd notice a nice HD speed improvement, regardless of the 66 vs 33 spec, as my mobo at the moment doesnt support 66 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif...Real close to buying one...BTW, i just LOVE my quantum, o/c's well, and never a hitch of problems, so i want to stick with this brand.

Can't remeber the size of the caching on that HDD? If it has 2MB Caching buy it, if not try the IBM or WDC models that do have 2MB Caching. Also, I'd recommend putting the new HDD on the Primary controller, copy ypur originial HDD to it http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif It will run faster http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gifAnd yes, you will notice good amount of speed increase with the new HDD http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

The quantum has 512k caching. The IBM has 2 megs...so i guess the IBM would be the good one...Why does the 2 megs help...also, are the ibm's good with overclocking?

Does anyone know of a recent review comparing the quantum ka 7200 drive the the ibm 7200 ata66?I'm looking for a 9 gig drive. From what ive seen, it seems the seek time is .5 faster on the quantum...i just want to see some benchmarks to see if that 2 meg buffer really helps on the IBM as compared the the 512 on the Q.

Try http://www.storagereview.com/
The capacity of the drives are larger but I would imagine the performance would be similar http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
