Hello,
I have an HP 540n with BIOS 3.01 according to AIDA32. The HP website has Bios 3.04 for my computer but I have a few questions. 1-What good could this possibly do for me? I have no problems with my computer other than the fact that I have 256mb but windows says its 224 (the BIOS says its 256 and HP said this is because 32 of the mb goes to the video). 2-Will I lose any of my files as a result of upgrading?3-Is it a good idea to upgrade this? I have copied and pasted what the website says below.
Thank you,
Richard

Please don't spam the thread. There's no need for all of that data.

The BIOS can be updated without loss of data as long as you do it correctly. If you think that there's a possibility of power loss during the procedure, wait for a better time.

Why do you need it? Maybe you do, maybe you don't. It doesn't sound like you know one way or the other.

If you are good a BIOS flashing, then do it. Otherwise get someone who knows what to do and have them update it for you.

I always update every one of my systems to the latest BIOS version so I can have the least amount of bugs and the most up to date features and processors supported.

If you are satisfied, then do not do it. You can turn your computer into a paperweight in 5 seconds or less if it is done incorrectly.

If you want to learn more about your computer then try the flash procedure. Follow the HP instructions to the letter. Do NOT miss a step and do NOT do anything different than stated. HP computers are very easy to update if you follow directions.

If there is nothing wrong with your computer, you have no reason to flash the bios. Flashing to a later bios update won't change the amount of ram listed, 256mb total, 32mb taken by video, leaving 224mb for the system.

If you still want to proceeed, then read carefully what these 2 moderators have posted.
