How does one open up and see what is inside of a .dat file? For example, an Ntuser.dat file(in NT Server) or an index.dat file(which is kept in the History folder in Win 98). Thanks,
Mike

I had never tried, but thought Quick View Plus would 'open' most any type of text document...but, nope...not a .dat file. Hope somebody else will have an answer to this one myself. HomeYield 04-23-2001, 04:45 PM Try, shift + right click and then 'open with'. Open the .dat file with either notepad or wordpad. Make sure that you uncheck "Always use this program to open this file," or all .dat files will be associated with that particular program. RayH 04-23-2001, 05:23 PM To open the DAT file in the Windows History Folder you need a freeware program called Spider. That otherwise inaccessable folder contains EVERY URL you've ever visted! Mike Bovon 04-24-2001, 11:50 PM Ray, I looked at all of my app sites, and ran a search with file ferret. Nothing. Do you have a url to some site for a download for Spider? Tnx SysOpt.com
