Can any kind soul give me any pointers?
I have DirectX Player (version 8), and for some reason lately, it has suddenly decided to crash, giving the message (when trying to run GTA2, for example) "GTA2 caused an invalid page fault in module DPLAYERX.DLL at 016f:009538f2..." and a whole speel of page-fault-ish type numbers.

I have'nt knowingly installed / re-installed anything that should affect it (though ol' Windows does have a habit of altering things without informing!)

It only really affects a couple of games at the moment (GTA2s the only one I really wanna run); it wont even begin to run them before crashing on this fault. It only affects games, but I'd like to cure it all the same.

Any ideas anyone? Please? Pretty please, even?
(oh, and yes, I have done the most obvious of re-installing DirectX Player. Several billion times).

You may have to uninstall dx8 and fall back to 7. There are some solid freeware utilities for this task out there.

I managed to (seemingly) successfully remove DirectX 8; and once it was more completely downgraded to DirectX 6, which is about the latest version most of the stuff I'm trying to run requires.

But now I'm still getting exactly the same error as when I was running version 8; about having an "invalid module in DPlayerX.dll"; I can only assume it must be something buried really deep, but I have'nt got any ideas where to start looking.

I actually had a seemingly similar problem a month or go back when Outlook Express suddenly started having trouble with one of it's DLLs, and no matter how much I un-installed and re-installed, the problem remained. and I only managed to cure that by following a step-by-step cure I manage to track down on a site, which unregistered the .DLL in the System Registry. I have suspicions this may be a similar type of problem - though I might be on totally the wrong track.

Suggestions anyone? Pleease?
