I have used Gamespy for years...I bought and registered it.

Well, I opened it yesterday and it prompted to upgrade to a new version. I thought cool...why not.

BIG MISTAKE! It loaded webshare and gator on my PC...even though I saw those and answered not to install them.

Ad-Aware removed them for me...but then when I opened Gamespy again...it prompted to upgrade again. I cancelled out of it and it still works...but either I turn off the update notification or get rid of Gamespy.

I think it's BS they load that **** on my machine...especially considering they have a good track record and support base.

I did write them to let them know I would like my money back if they can not provide updates without spyware in it.

Applications installing other software without your approval is very unethical..

I love applications that not only install software that is non-essential for it to run, but places items in your startup folder or in your registry to launch at startup.. all of it most of the time without your approval.. and sometimes without even notifying you..

That burns me up and is wrong!
Now people have paid to be spied on?
I have been so disgusted and annoyed by this whole subject (as some of you know).

I took a quick look at there site to read there privacy policy, and found no mention of this, but there policy is dated April 1, 1999. Maybe they have been to busy to update it the last couple years.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention BBA, although I don't use GameSpy I will be a pleasure to send them my opinion on the subject.
Best of luck, let us know if you get a response.

Jam...the one guy listing windows system files as spyware...cracks me up because he also lists things MS doesn't make as MS spyware...and the only things on my sys I found that he listed are valid MS dll's with no spyware functions.

There is reaction...and there is over reaction. That link was a prime example of over reaction.
