Wonder any fellow members have such a combination. Have got this set up for over 6 month and have never been happy about it. This is my first MSI/ALi mobo. Have had other computers using EPoX/VIA setup without the headaches!
The problem: 1. First, there is the USB/ATA66 problem which seems to have resolved when reflashes BIOS with Ver 3.4 from MSI (microstar international, a mobo manufacturesr from taiwan)
2. The CDROM , under ME, cannot be set to set to `DMA'. Now, have tried this setup with a Panasonic 32x model:586 and a latest Mitsubishi Diamond Data 50x UDMA 2 rated.
Any attemps to set to `DMA' under Device Manager ->CDROM will be unsuccessful.
Now the above are tried with the BIOS (which is an AMI BIOS) under `Peripheral Setup', setting CDROM Mode to `Normal'. If one is to set to `Turbo', and any attempt to then set ME's CDROM above to `DMA' will hang the system ! (Freezes)
Also, as an advise to users or potential buyer of new mobos, I would advise selecting EPoX motherboards because of the wonderful tech. support they provide. They are better than our local distributor. The same cannot be said about MSI.
