Has anyone had any experience with Samsung CD ROM drives? I need to replace one or two drives and don't think I will go the "$19.95 after mail in rebate" route again. This time I would like to get one that will actually work for more than a few months to a year. Other recommendations for reliable affordable CD ROM drives? Teacs are a little on the pricey side, and Plextors are hard to find in IDE, not to mention real expensive. Thanks in advance, Chuck

I have a 52X Samsung CD-ROM in my system and I guess it's ok. It takes a while to spin up though. Which for me is kind of annoying. I plan on buying a new CD-ROM when I have some extra money. It's an ok drive if you don't mind hearing it spin up for a few seconds. But other than that it reads cd-r/rw's with no problem.

Thanks for the replies. Not sure where to find Artec drives. And I think that most of the faster (48X and above) do take a few seconds to spin up. I just hope to get a couple that will last for a while and read all my discs, including CDR.

I have replaced all 3 of my drives with ARTEC 50x drives. They are fast and read just about any format. They also read cd that are scratched and in bad shape. Plus they are affordable, under $50.00

I have a Samsung CDRW. Works good. I read their drives have a very low failure rate. Also I would avoid Afreey drives, lots of failures.
