ok everybody, i'm sure we've all been to an arcade and played one of those games that has some sort of flying vehicle like a jet or a helicopter and its a forward scrolling game where like you just fly your little jet and you can move back, forward, side to side and the screen keeps scrolling forward and like there are tons of enemies all around and you can get like powerups that give you high powered weapons and things, i dont know what these games are called, or if anyone even has any clue what i'm talking about but i'd like to know if there are any for the pc that i can download

Depends on who you talk to, but most people call those types of games "shooters" or "shoot 'em ups" Some good examples would be Raiden (one of my faves), R-Type, Gradius, 1943:Battle of Midway, After Burner, and so on.

I loved the entire R-type series it ruled. Anyhow the are called scrolling 2d games. Thats the term anyhow. Ya got left to right or up and down but no where between. Hence 2d. R-type is on nintendo, but search for "scrolling arcade classics for pc" on google. You should find some there To buy or freeware/abandonware even.:D

My favorite arcade shoot em up was xevious. Thats` from back in the 80's though. God how I loved that game. Zaxxon was cool too, but I gues you would have to call it a 3d side scroller if that makes any sense. Defender was another great one. Check out www.classicgaming.com. Tons of old arcade games (roms) and the emulators to run them for free.

If you want something more current, you can download blackhawk striker from www.shockwave.com. Just a demo but it's cool and you can get the full version pretty cheap. Decent graphics and lots of weapons and stuff to use them on.

there's one called "Blackhawk Striker" which you can download on GameChannel. It's not bad and I think it fits your definition.

Back on the Amiga I played a game called Sidewinder...that was the best shoot'em up I have ever played. It is really sad to me that I have not seen any new shoot'em ups for the PC in a long long time. Just think of how nice they would look. MAME has been the best way for me to play some of the old arcade shooters.

Dude Gradius was wicked for its time!! What was that 15 years ago man me and my brother got in more fights over that game. We were playing one time and we were both into it big time. We were calling each other names like pu__y and C__K s_____r and really getting drity with our name calling. Well I was getting thirsty so I get up to go get something to drink and my freaking dad was sitting behind us. He told me I was lucky he wasnt my mother.

Man **-=Gradius=-** - I will have to pull that one out this Thanksgiving and play with him again.
