BF1942 Shutout Problem

Hi guys i have a problem
when i start bf works great plays the intro etc but as soon as the map bit splash screen comes up to choose the location to start it crashes to the desktop.

Spec:
Athlon 1.4 266fsb
512Mb RAM = 2x 256Mb
120Gig Drive
Geforce 2 MX 400 Hurcules
Soundblaster Live 5.1
VIA Chipset
Win Xp Pro

i was told it may be the sound card but i lowered sound acellertion and also in game options i lowered it i even disabled it to see what happened still crashed.
One other ting it workes great in win98se but when i formatted and went to xp with all latest drivers dx8.1 it crashes.

I'm also using the live 5.1 when i play BF1942...no problems(although i did have sound kick in and out untill i checked "use harware accleration" on page 2 of audio setup)....My video card is a Abit siluro (geforce 2 400 64 meg)...much like yours and i'm using det 40.72 drivers.My system plays the game very well(although a newer video card is in my future) so your's should too.
I'm also using XPpro.....
