My main rig is an Athlon XP 1700+ with a Biostar M7VIG KM266 and 512 MB of PC133 SDRAM. The video chip is on the mobo and I have it set to 32MB shared ram. My problem is that on 3dmark2001 I only score 535 marks. Is this all I should expect from my current array? Also, I figure that I could increase my score by 1) going to PC2100 DDR or 2)getting a video card. Is there any other way to increase my scores? I have DirectX 8.0 and the most current video drivers. Thanks!

Any decent video card will increase your scores, say GŁ, G$ or ati 7500, 8500 and 9700. Memory will help overall performance a little but won't increase your score too much, not as much as a good vid card.

Try increasing your shared memory to 128mb and run another 3d score and post what you get, should see some improvement but you will still need a decent vid card.

(if you got the cash go for a Nvidia ti4200.) Your 3d score should leap to around 9000 if you do.

That onboard video is an S3 ProSavage 8. You'll definitely benefit from a better video card. Same probably goes for the RAM too.

32MB shared ram is the max the board will allow. I probably should just spring for the vid card. Thanks!

Best vid card for that sytem would be a gf4ti4200 or if you can strtch that far a Radeon 8500
