I am installing a Cd writable in a Compaq 5050, However I can only find one audio cable connector on the mainboard that is currently connected to the original CD rom drive. Is there another connector for this mainboard that I justt don't see or is there such a thing as an audio cable splitter to connect two cd drives to one maiboard connector

you dont need an audio cable hooked up to the writer .....I have a comcrap 5716 and I dont use a cable on my writer and it will play audio cd's in win 98 but for some reason wont play audio cd's in win98 se even with a cable hooked to it .....go figure ...

I would think that dual audio cable is a bad thing. If you were producing outputs from both cdr audio sections, any differences would result in cross-currents would they not? Seems like a not so good idea to me.

There isn't any danger of equipment damage using a splitter/combiner cable, but your audio quality may suffer. The output from one may not like being connected to the output of another, possibly causing a lot of distortion. A better alternative is to plug one of the outputs to the LINE-IN connector of the soundcard.

You don't need an audio cable to the CDRW if you don't plan on listening to audio CDs from that drive.

You may not need the cable. I've found in several cases going to control panel - multimedia - cdrom and selecting enable digital playback eliminates the need for the audio cable. Both were onboard sound though, so I don't know if it will work otherwise.

cedar - the same works for me and my sound blaster live! in windows 2000. I would suggest hooking the audio cable up to your new drive, and using the old one just for reading data cds. You might also be able to find a plug for "line in" that will accept the same plug, that way the drives are on different plugs, just make sure nothing else is using it.

I don't know what the shipping charges are, as I go to this guy's booth at computer shows. But he has the best prices I've ever seen on connectors, adapters, etc!

My old Ensoniq card will take THREE internal sources.
