For a month or more,my emails have been unreadable at the other end. When someone gets one, it looks like I have typed it in a foreign language or sometimes it just has the letters "Y" with two dots over it and then the letter "P". Like this: "yp". That's all that shows up. No message even tho I have typed one.

I have changed no settings. Have I contracted a virus that is playing tricks with my email? Is it an internal problem with my computer?

I have an HP (1998) Windows 98; Outlook Express 5.0.

If anyone knows what is going on, PLEASE get back to me. This is most annoying. I never know when this is going to happen. Once or three times a day.

HELP IS REALLY NEEDED!! Thanks in advance.

In outlook express, go to Tools\Options\Send and change the Mail Sending Format to plain text, see if that helps.
Do you have any anti-virus software? If so, download the latest virus definitions and run full system scan.

I ran into this problem several years ago. Not all providers use the same protocols and while some e-mails are readable to some, they are giberish to others.

In my case, anything I received from my brother at hotmail, I could read. Anything that I sent him, was giberish. That is when I went back to using Eudora Pro, it seems to be the most compatible with everyone.

Try downloading Eudora Pro at www.eudora.com (http://www.eudora.com) and see if that clears up the problem.
