What exactly is the point of installing DX9 on a system with a DX8 card (GF4Ti4200)? Are there improvements that can be accessed or implemented by hardware and/or applications that exclusively use DX8 (i.e. 8.1)? Since I don't own an ATI Radeon 9700 or any other 9000 series card and no games use DX9 (to my knowledge), what would be the point??

Everybody asks this question at some point and then quietly installs it.;)

Have read some reports that it made ms games run better so far with a couple fps boosts here and there. My MOHAA is running fine so I won't touch it yet with 9.

I had to go back to 8.1, because 9 messed up my dvd playback. It only helps DX9 cards (radeon 9700, 9500) anyways.

Sworfish knows people too well. I actually installed it this morning, because I felt like guinea-pigging it. So far, so good. Games play well, no issues anywhere. I'm actually kinda suprised. If I don't post within a day, run for your lives ;) .

Well, when games ACTUALLY require and/or use DX9 you'll need it, if you have just aa old DX6/7/8 card, cause some of the rendering features the game uses will be emulated, requiring DX9 for reference :t
