I donno about WinXP...I kinda doubt that would work, but I have copied and pasted several drives. Go to a real dos prompt and type attrib -r -a -s -h <enter> to remove all attributes from the files. I have only done the C: drive attrib, but copied and pasted several partitions as soon as I got back into Winderz. I guess to be sure, and if there are several partitions, it would be prudent to attrib each one.

Something else I do when setting up a new drive like this. I fdisk it but do not make the primary partition active (yet)..exit and format each partition, jumper it as a slave (if not already done so), and go into windows and copy everything from the C: to the first partition downstream thats empty...the D: partition to the next empty drive ect. Once thats all done, shut down, re jumper from slave to master...boot and go back into fdisk and set the primary partition active, reboot and go to Windows. Check now to see if everything works properly..

You can reset attrib at a dos prompt if you wish by typing attrib +r +a +s +h <enter>.

Just use the data lifeguard tools floppy that came with the WD hard drive. there is an option to copy your old drive to the new drive.

I've read that the WD tools do NOT work for copying XP over to new drive.

Do you have a copy of Ghost?
