I am looking to buy an all in one printer and have narrowed it down to two HP options. I haven't been able to track down any reviews on either of my selections and was wondering if anyone knew anything about either. They are the HP PSC 750 and the HP OfficeJet V40. Any comments or suggestions?

Welcome to SysOpt

And, nope, I do not use anything that has HP on it...(personal anger with them) but I'm sure someone here will stop by with some advice. I'm sure you have looked at other make/models as well...did anything else come close to what you need?

I do not know much about those two computers, but what I have learned is that the price of the printer is kinda a secondary thing. It is the price of the printer ink, cartriges that you also want to check out some of them get quite expensive.

Hope these help.

I believe that HP now charges for them to ship you drivers for some of there products if you need an update. At least that is what I had to do with a scanner that I had that was fairly new.

We got my Dad a HP PSC 750 for Christmas. I havn't had time to really do anything with it, but he was been tinkering around and it seems to do the job for him. The only thing that I would gripe about is the HP drivers and WinXP. The CD that came with the printer/scanner/copier would not run on XP because it said something about the drivers not working with the OS that we had. So we had to DL drivers from HP's site and they were I think around 60mb. So, if you have a slow connection you might run into trouble with that. Other than that it's a nice little All in one deal.

the thing with HP is they make some decent products(my 970 cse works just fine for about2-3 years now). However, their customer service sucks (expletive). I used to work for deskjet and laserjet support for HP. We HAD to put the customer through hell and make them do lots of troubleshooting over the phone. That's a job I never want to do again! So whatever you get, as long as you don't have problems with the product or the software than you'll be happy...If you DO have problems I suggest you sacrifice a live chicken before you call tech support!!!!

the best printers are those with Independent color cardrige system

like higher Canons and Epson models

but if you just want Black and write printers

then any one will doo

just get a full blank ink cartdrige

Those SOBs took my Daughter thru the pits of hell for an hour, then gave her another number...not a toll-free number either. When she got them on the phone, the first words were "your credit card, please". Absolutely astounded, she wanted to know why?..they then told her their tech calls were $25 bux per call. Turns out, these jerks were the people that made the HP product my Daughter had. Thank God for Walmart...she took that POS back to them and exchanged it. That's a job I never want to do again! I would go with the HP K80 over the V40 ... I have used 3 different K80 (home, work, and a friend's house) and it has worked flawlessly. The only downside is there is no flatbed capability.

I would forget the all in one systems alltogether. It sounds like a cool idea until you figure out that first of all a computer already does faxes just fine with just a scanner and printer, secondly, a flatbed scanner is more functional and less likely to jam or produce poorly alighned scans, and last but not least, if one part screws up the whole thing has to be replaced, because nobody is going to fix it for you.

I would skip inkjet altogether and get any decent laser all-in-one. HP and Brother have good units in the $500 range.

Sure, laser is only B/W and you get no flatbed, but inkjet smudges when wet, is sloooow and very expensive. Laser was an epiphany for me when I finally got it.

I installed the HP V40 in my mom's computer (running 98SE) like a month ago and its been great. The print speed is kinda slow (about 6ppm max). It does use a feature where it detects the fax signal and will take over the call. if it doesn't detect that signal when you receive a call, it will let your call go thorough. That way, you can have it ready to always ans. fax calls without getting that annoying "screech" sound when you want to talk to someone. She paid $200 for it at Office Max. They seem to be happy with it and it does great scans so you would prob. be okay buying it.

Have a look on http://www.amazon.com/ and http://www.amazon.co.uk for the products, because there are often useful purchaser reviews.
