Hi,
My wife wants to make a CD viewable on a DVD player of stuff that she has recorded on an 8mm video recorder. The recorder has a video out and audio out plugs, one of each, so I presume the sound is mono, not stereo.
The hardware/software that I have that may be useful in this pursuit is
1. Nero Software
2. Real Magic Card
3. Lite-on CD writer
I'm a beginner with this idea, so if you could help me understand the hardware/software that I'd need, I'd appreciate it. I have no idea if if's possible to put video files on a CD that a DVD player can read or if a DVD recorder is necessary.
As I may have followup questions, I hope that you will have the time for them. Thanks,
Biglaker

You'll need a video capture card first. Most All-in-Wonder ATis have this onboard. Next, you need DV software. Again, the ATis have it. With that, you can greate AVI or MOV videos from the analog input.
If you need to invest in hardware, you need a capture card/DV software package. I can't advise on any particular brand because I haven't "been there".

Bill is right, ATI All In Wonder are the best investment for Mid Entry level to Semi Professional quality
i use mine a lot and the Quality are DVD like
if you want Anything higher end
then you better have lots of $$$$$$ to buy the professional stuff from Pinnacle or whatever other brand you like, not to mention the HELL LOT OF HARD DRIVE SPACE you'll need to store the HUGE FILES you'll be creating with those professional cards, that by the way have very limited OS support.
More Quality = More HDD space
me currently using roughtly 640 Gig RAIDED, to record long hours of videos

BpB and AllGamer,
Thanks for the info. I will look into the ATI All in Wonder.
AllGamer: Could you be a little more specific about the software end? I don't want to go into a big $ deal. My wife was just hoping to be able to put some video onto a CD that she could show her parents (overseas). Is it possible to put video/audio together as I would find on a DVD but rather just put it on a CD? Do you know how long playing time would be the result?
Also, I forgot to mention that I gave my daughter a PC that had a 3dfx 3 3500 card that has "video capture" capability. I have no idea yet if that capability is similar to what the ATI could do. I could get that card back if it were worthwhile. But will check into the ATI card first. Is there a minimum version that I would need. I see that the 9700 goes for a pretty good chunk of change. I hope I won't need as much hard drive space as you. Sounds like you do a great deal of video capture.
Thanks again,
Biglaker
