Hey, im looking for some advice on which OS to choose. I have on Cd, Windows ME, Windows 98 original, Windows 95 w/ USB and a Demo of Windows Xp.

I have tried XP and really liked it, but unfortunately cannot afford the full version :( too pricey. and im aware that W95 is pretty **** old ;) so I basically wanted to know what OS would be best to run out of winME and win98? Id say Win98 straight off except its the orignial and not SE.. I can't get ahold of SE right now, im a student and dont even have a tenner spare.

Im currently running Windows 98, Fully updated, with Internet Explorer 6 (soon to be updated to 6 SP1), and the Windows ME defrag. I have had no issues with stability, and, having applied a few registry tweaks, this system is quite a good performer.

Should I stick with this? or change to ME? ive head ME is very very buggy. Are there any other ME programs i could copy over to improve performance?

My system is:

AMD Duron 850 mhz @ 892.50mhz
256 mb PC133 Sdram
40 Gigabyte Fujitsu Hard Drive
AC97' Sound
Onboard LAN
Onboard graphics (this is gonna change to GeForce 4 MX440 within a few weeks)

Run ME. Disable the useless System Restore feature. It will slow you down.

Bills on the right lines, use either 98 opr me but make sure you tweak em good, otherwise theyre prone to beign a bit silly.

for tweaks check out www.tweak3d.net www.3dspotlight.com and similar sources.

I agree with Bill, run ME disable the restore and keep it updated. Most problems with OS are with the people running them and not the OS. I have run all windows OS except 3.x and have never had a real problem.

If by chance you are a student they have very affordable xp solutions for students with a discount, also if you have your own business (doesn't matter how small) you may be able to register as a microsoft partner and be elligable for a cheap version of xp pro. I did this for my web design company (one website) and I managed to get xp pro for less than 50 bucks!

Have fun!:t

I agree too. ME with system restore turned off is pretty stable if you know what you're doing.

I use ME on both of my good machines and 98SE on older ones, slower ones or if they have limited hard drive space. I'm very pleased with ME and don't find it to be buggy.
