Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Question about Nero 5
I was wondering about the three options on the nero cd. It has an option to install Nero- Nero Media Player- IN/CD Packet Writing, should I install all three? I just got this software to go with my HP 93001 writer and was just wondering about install all of them or not. Thanks for replys and suggestions.

Of those three, Nero itself is the actual burning software. Media Player sounds fairly self-descriptive, so I guess it's your option. The packet writing thing - I don't know what it is, but you could probably look it up on Google or Ahead's website.

In/CD is for using CD-RW Disks, formatting and such.

Speedo is correct about IN-CD.
One point -- IN-CD usually puts an entry in the registry to start every time you boot the PC. So the pgm is running in the background even if you have no plans to use it at that time.
I deleted registry entry and just made a shortcut to it on my desktop, so I can start when I want to use a CD-RW disc.

Hello,
The IN-CD software allows the CD to be used like a big diskette. THe big drawback to it is that it has to first format your CD (takes about 30 minutes) and then that CD is really only readable in your machine.
My mom uses it alot, but I don't trust the process well enough and blank cd's are pretty cheap.
Just my opinion..

Horseface,
I have been using IN-CD for a long time, in fact I just downloaded the latest update to it from AHEAD's web site, last night.
I use CD-RW discs all the time for backing up my data and have never had any problems!
You can get a UDF reader (small program, 803KB) from AHead that allows your RW discs to be *readable on any other PC*!!
Go to their web site and look thru their downloads and you shud find it! If not - PM me and I will send it to you.
One small trick -- you can use a CD-'RW' disc as a CD-'R' disc as long as it is BLANK (not formatted as a RW).
Also, their Nero Burning program (the one used for writing to CD-'R' discs) has a feature that will allow you to 'erase' or blank a RW disc to make it like new again (never been formatted), or just to erase all entries/files, etc. on the disc and still be formatted.
Watch which CD-'R' discs you buy, some are really junk!!
Did you know that the discs in the bulk packs (25, 50 100) do not have the same quality control in manufacturing as single discs? The dye layer may not be as good!!
Hope this gives you some useful info.
Sincerely,
