I just bought a p5a to host my amd k62 450.
I have a fuji 8.4 gig on my secondary IDE, and my bios doesn't detect it properly on initial power-up, but it does find it properly on warm boot..
Any ideas?
I've tried everything I can think of..
HELP!!

bios doesn't detect it properly on initial power-up.....what EXACTLY do you mean? Does it give you an error or what?

I have the drive as secondary master.
The bios simply fails to find it on cold boot, (I have it set to auto, but it does the same thing when I enter the drive info manually). It just sits there looking for it for a while, then says NONE and continues.
When windoze boots, the drive is visible, but the drive letters are all messed up.

I have that motherboard, and its BAT sibling. Both work fine for me. I have two old quantums on the p5a-b, and a 10.2gb western digital on the p5a. Maybe your drive is going bad?

check and or replace the cable also check to make sure you have the drive jumpered the correct way

The drive is jumpered properly.
It works fine on my other board (FIC 503)...
If I delay the boot for a bit by disabling quick memory check it seems to work. My bios might just be running through before the drive has a chance to spin up. Anyone know how to introduce an ide delay in this Award bios?

I don't have your mobo, just search the BIOS and if it supports that feature, then you'll find it. Good Luck_______

disable Quick power on self test
that should give it anonter 15 to 30 sec's to boot time right from the start

Try this ASUS link http://asus.com/products/Motherboard/pentium/p5a/qa.html.
I had a problem with a timing problem on mine, I would get windows protection error msgs on boot up.There is a patch for it. Maybes theres a patch for you?
