If you have this board have you had any success not using the DIMM sockets in order? Or mixing RAM brands?
I have a 256MB Elixir DDR2100 that works great in DIMM 0,
but I get memory error beep codes in the other slots.

I had a 256 MB Crucial stick in DIMM 1 (with the Elixir in DIMM 0)
but only half the memory for it was recognized. I tried each stick individually in all slots and every combo gave me mem error beep codes except for the Elixir in DIMM 0.

The manual recommends using them in order but doesn't state you have to. I'm trying to figure out whether the Crucial stick is bad or the board has a problem. It has the latest BIOS and runs very stable with just the Elixir stick. I'd rather not buy another Elixir stick only to find out that DIMM 0 is the only good one.

Firstly, mixing different brands of RAMs isn't recommended because of imcompatibility issues. That one, only solution is to use same brand of RAM.

Secondly, it might be that your other DIMM slots (apart from DIMM 0) are faulty. Does the Crucial stick work only alone in DIMM 0, just like the Elixer one does? If so, it might be true.

Check the number of chips on the Crucial sticks. How many are there? Newer sticks only have 8 RAM chips on them, which translates to 256Mbit RAM chips. These new RAM sticks, older boards can't support them.

Anyway, it doesn't matter which DIMM slot you put your RAM sticks in. As long as all of it does get recognised by the computer during POST, there won't be any difference, performance-wise or whatsoever.

Hope it helps.

Cheers :)

The system didn't POST with the Crucial in DIMM 0.
Both brands of RAM have 8 chips on each side (is this what double density RAM is?) The manual states the board can accept double density chips

Sounds really like the DIMM slots are faulty. Any other opinions on this from anybody else? :)
