My friend had one..I never noticed it before.
The case REALLY is as shiny as they advertise it!
Its real neat..Hooked up to her 21" Samsung screen...just real nice all out.
Think ill stick to x86 cuz I cant build Mac's, but they sure have better case designers than the 'other' people.
Didnt actually get to play with it, but it booted up in no time.
Did I Mention it was shiny?

Sorry Aura, I hate macs with a passion. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif There are only one other thing in life that I dislike just the same - AOL.

Yeah i've seen the G4 case. It is "shiny" http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Yeah i have to give it to them they did do a pretty good job http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif But i wouldn't like to have a Mac. Don't they clasify the G4 as a super computer? If so why? I think a super computer is a computer that can accually run most software http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif Am I right? Yep i think so. But of course there's the Cray supercomputers that i have no experience with http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif OH WELL ONE DAY
Yeah i'm sure that someone will eventually create a case like that. Ooops i didn't see skywalker's post. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Sorry. Those cases are pretty cool http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

No, true supercomputers run almost no software, just native, wierd code, usualy 64 or 128 bit, while the macincrap runslame 32bit. And even if the core runs better than an x86 core, they are still sittin with 550s...we have 1.2gh athlons! May crapintosh die! Down with crapple!

Amen, KillerBug!!!
Surfing along this evening and I spot a heading about a new macky os. Yippee!
I didn't read the article (God forbid to read anything about macs) but did look at the pretty pictures. "Morphing Icons and Documents" - shows a picture.
It's like having a Flash OS. Holy hannah, that would drive me insane. Flashed websites are ok but if they're too overdone, it gets irratating.

Actually, G4's crack RC5 at an insane rate... oh to have a lab of those cracking away... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif (not to actually use, of course)

hehe... Never been a fan of Macs..
My friend used to have a iMac, and I bothered her everyday about it, until she got a Windows PC this week!
(I know, I'm bad.)

Do you think mac will ever die out or have their shiny cases won the hearts of too many?

Started out w/ a Mac...talk about an easy learning curve...id still be stumbling today (I am to some degree) if it wernt for the Mac OS---made the migration to Win98 and beyond, well---"easier"---PC mag just compared the HOTTEST computers (June edition) the G4 faired pretty well against machines at double the "speed"...(darn things are expensive tho) and talk about wackin RC5 whew!... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I had used macs from about 1989 to 1995. Finally the operating system was what bothered me so much, I then became accustomed to the Windows 95 "look and feel" on the PC.
I was actually able to build a G4, but it did take a little time, seeing as I've only built PC clones. They do in fact have the Windows OS for the MAC (old news, right?), so for those who don't have a prob. with the label on the case, they can take advantage of the power the G4 provides, and use an OS their accustomed to.
Someday, we won't even have to worry about a case or a monitor or even the Names "Mac" or "PC" We'll just plug our little brains into the "mainstream" and collect & store data by means of electrical impulses to the brain or we'll store them on neural nets. Then of course there's AI, I'm sure you all know what that will do for us!!

I use g3 and g4 for graphic design and web development, and I have to say that they are really fast. even a imac 333mhz computer blows my k6-2 450 out of the water. I hate the os with a passion, so i will never own one at home, but they can crack hardcore numbers quickly.
the reason the g4 is classified as a supercomputer is because they do 1 billion floating point instructions per second; at least that is what i heard.
fast computer, but worlds crappiest interface.

If the G4 processor is so good than why doesn't intel or amd create something simular that works better. Intel and amd need to get on the move. If the core is that good i with intel and amd would do something like that. What's so special about he core of the G4 that makes it so fast?

Thing is, the G4 isnt an x86 CPU. The engine cant just be ported over like that.

1 Billion Floating Points Instructions/s...
Or 1 Gigaflops.
However this isnt in all apps, just ones optimised for the velocity engine. (kinda like SSE on steriods).
A G4 450 cracks faster than a dual P3 700. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
I am not a fan of using Macs, but I wouldnt mind lookin at em. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

G4s kick ****. I had never touched a Mac before in my life, but one day I came across a G4 at work. Wow, it made my P3 700 look like a pig.
G3s are blah but the G4 is VERY nice.

Correct. Also, I think that Motorola holds the patent on the AltiVec vector processing units inside the G4 processor.
Mac-bashers now have a REASON to feel threatened.

Although i do HATE macs i do realize that they are powerful machines. For work not play. But they're at least twice the cost of a kickass pc. Im a gamer and im not gonna pay double the price of a pc to buy a mac that wont even be compatible with my games.
Plus EVERYTHING is more expensive on the mac even the same software in mac version.

The so called super computers of today have the processing power equivelent to the nervouse system of a snail (fact)
If we plug our tiny brains in to that we will all take a backward step.
One human brain has more processing power going on at any given time than the whole www.
Supercomputer Equals Snail
"Today's computers are not even close to a 4-year-old human in their ability to see, talk, move, or use common sense. One reason, of course, is sheer computing power. It has been estimated that the information processing capacity of even the most powerful supercomputer is equal to the nervous system of a snail-a tiny fraction of the power available to the supercomputer inside [our] skull."-Steven Pinker, director of the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

AuraEdge They may be shiny but the also work better than IBM's http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif can't get a biuld thats as stable as them Mac's, but as they are mainly only used by DTP people they are no threat.
as much as some hate Mac's, on the whole Macst tend to be a better system if you want built for you, if you want to tinker then IBM's have more options.
So best way of looking at them all sparkle and boring,
as for IBM boring to look at but fun to hack.

If a MAc is RISC(reduced instuction set computer) and a PC is CISC(complex instuction set computer) what can a PC do that a Mac can't?Why can a Mac beat an equivalently clocked PC processor?

It's all about what flavor you like best folks. My ladys' Dad has a Crapintosh. He's a musician/producer and he ripps $%#@! up...And don't forget when the G4 first came out it had a half or full speed cache (differnce of about $300) with thier 450mhz chips. This is about the same time Slot A Athlons were about to come out.
I wound up with a 650 Athlon and loved it. I've got a 1ghz now on the socket side and I still love it, but you can't knock the G4. Still kickin' **** after 2 years and only upgrading memory.
