I managed to use a hack from google.com that allowed me to install IIs on Xp home but so far have had no luck getting it running. I am learning how to create ASP web applications and need this server to work on my laptop for convienience sake. I have managed to get it to work on my old laptop (XP Pro), and my desktop (XP Pro). I am also running a home network and figured that as a work around I could just write on my laptop, save to my other computer and run it from the IIs there but still no luck.
I have tried with a simple page that just told the date and I get the HTML but no ASP over the network. I don't know if I am typing in the wrong path and bypassing the IIs or if there is a permission that I need to set on IIs. Thank you for any help and feel free to ask any Questions, Don.

On the XP Home computer, can you get the page by using the address http://127.0.0.1/<yourpagename> You must do this from the PC that has XP Home on it.

What are you guys talking about
IIS comes build in by default with WinXP Pro
if you have XP home then that's another story
if you have PRO
just go into ADD/Remove program to set it up

Thanks AltatemTC for your suggestion but no luck.
AllGamer I have two computers with xp pro on it with IIS and I am trying to either connect to one of these with my xphome computer, or to get IIs to run on my xphome computer (I already have it installed but cannot access any pages).
I hope someone can help me out. Thanks, don.

If you can't access your page using the 127.0.0.1 address then IIS is not running. That is the local address and should be accessible.

O.K. I have been monkeying with it and when I try to run it this is the error message I get:
MMC: cannot open the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\iis.msc.
This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file.
That is the message I get.
The file does exist the right directory. I do not know how to check which version of MMC created this but I pulled the files off of a win2k disk and xphome disk. As far as access rights go I am the only user on the computer and I am set as administrator, is there something else I should look for, for permission?
Thanks for the quick reply and any further help will be appreciated, I am sure I am not the only one who has encountered this problem. Don.

Have you tried installing IIS off an XP Pro disk? You may have to install MMC off the W2K disk.

I have not tried to install IIs from xp Pro. The articles I have read said it will not work.
How would I go about intalling the newer MMC?
Thanks again! Don.:x

O.K. I have downloaded the MMC from the link you gave me but it says it is not for win2k or newer. The two disks I got this from(IIs) are win2k and xphome.
Do you think that this will be o.k.?
I'll probably set a restore point and try it before you can answer but your opinion would be very appreciated.
Do you think if I was to copy this file from one of my XPpro computers it would work?
Thanks Again, Don.:x

I tried but it told I was already running win2k and it was installed already.
Is there any way I could install this from xp pro? or any where else?
Thanks once more! Don:( .

Try clicking on Start->Run and then typing in MMC. After a little research, I think MMC is already installed, even on XP Home edition.
Beyond that, my only recommendation is to upgrade your Home Edition to Pro. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
