Thinking of making a MP3 Server But..

I have a old 333 cyrix I am putting togeather and was thinking of making it a MP3 server, But I am not sure what they are used for really I mean is it just used for holding all your mp3's on and stream them to your LAN? or streaming VIA the internet? What do you guys use them for? and do I need any special software for one?

depends. you can make just for your lan. or you could get an ftp program and share it out to who ever. but if you share it out to people make sure you put limitations and your internet can handle it.

I don't mean running a FTP server and letting people download off me I ment like shoutcast server type thing. and if that was the primary reason for a MP3 server
