Hi all. This is how my network is configured. I have 3 computers, on a hub/broadband hardware router. This router is a Belkin 4 port ip router. Each of my computers is running windows xp pro. I am using no-ip for my .com name. the webserver I am using is called MyWebServer. Port 80 is being used by something else on my computer, so it has configured itself to be used on port 8000 or something. My domain name .........com can be pinged by my friend on the internet so I know thats working (it has pointed my domain name to the ip of my router). I have sucessfully hosted sites from my computer when I had the broadband connected to my computer directly, now it doesn't work. Obviously it is either something to do with the router, or that port 80 is being used by something else but i'm not sure. I know that my computer is not being protected by the routers built in firewall becuase I put my 192.168..... address in the DMZ of the router. Could anyone offer me any possible solutions on what to do??? Also, its nothing to do with my web server because bpftp server doesn't work eiter. Any input greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Since all browsers use port 80, you have to get that figured out. Port 8000 is useless.

If you have a firewall installed or the native XP firewall enabled, you'll have to disable it it reconfigure. Nothing should have an exclusive lock on port 80 other than a firewall.

Open up port 80!

Bill is indeed right. You either need to kick whatever other service is off port 80, or continually send out this URL to friends and whoever else: http://yourmachine.yourdomain.com:8080 or http://yourmachine.yourdomain.com:8080/virtual directory.

It's your choice.
