Ok, I have tried to download Quake II demo 3 times now and have had 3 screwed up'd attempts. The first attempt stopped at 17 megs and said "download complete". the second attempt stopped at 36megs and the third attempt stopped at 16 megs all saying "download complete". What gives??? When your downloading at 3.30kbps it makes for a long download. Tired of these false files I am getting. Download site:
www.fileplanet.com/index.asp?file=6584 (http://www.fileplanet.com/index.asp?file=6584)
what gives???
thanks

Ugrade to IE 4 or 5 and find a site that reports the file size. It will say downloaded XXMB of XXMB instead of XXMB of (unknown). If you get disconnected it will start were it left off.

Have IE4 and it's not that I am losing my connection it just says "files done". Like it has completed the download. I tried to re-download the file in hopes it would say "you have already started to download this, continue?" but no such luck. It just tries to re-download the entire program. this sucks

Easiest way to get it is off one of those free CD-ROMs on the covers of PC magazines. The Quake II demo was on practically every one a year ago. Some of your friends must still have a few of those CD-ROMs lying around somewhere.

I know from personal experience how frustrating it can be to download something off the net and find out the file's useless http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

looks like that is what I am going to have to do...I really don't think I will try and download that **** thing again. Much too large.EITHER THAT OR JUST FORGET IT.

Have seen this problem with saying "download complete" before actually being complete. This usually occurs when you are using a "proxy server" and its gets out of time with the download.

You could also try something like Getright or Gozilla that lets you resume downloads. They typically don't have the same problems getting corrupted or 'short' files and you can stop the download and get back to it easy later. Look on www.winfiles.com (http://www.winfiles.com) or www.gozilla.com (http://www.gozilla.com) and ********right.com (http://********right.com) .

Go with Getright..thats what I use and it never screws up a download

May not be best solution, but Maximum PC is a Great mag, and its CD has benchmarks, one which is Quake2 Demo. Great magazine.

I would recommend GetRight also. I use it and love it.

I hated GoZilla; it's a cookie-dropping-in-your-software-registry monster. $0.02
