I'm currently running SETI@home on one of my comps and I would like to know if there is a way to give it only a certain amount of CPU resources so it may only use 60% or so?
Right now it always uses 100% of of the CPU and because of that the CPU gets quite hot.
I don't mind it running in the background but I would like to set/limit the amount of CPU-power it gets.

I am almost certain that both RC5 and Seti are all or nothing. You can set RC5 to stop when the cpu gets to a certain temp. I would recommend getting a better fan. You can get them here: www.millisec.com (http://www.millisec.com) or here: www.2cooltek.com (http://www.2cooltek.com) . They are inexpensive and will let you do anything without getting too hot.

No. I will probably just stop running anything like SETI or RC5...
Stupid of them! If their programs were better to configure I would let it run (prob. something like 12 hours a day on a 550 AMD K6-2) but that way it will just sit there in idle...

If your system is running hot, stopping the use of these programs is not going to solve the problem. Whne you game or run Photoshop or anything powerful, you runt he cpu util up to 100% and thus are running hot anyway. i would still get a better cooler.

But I only use it as a Router for my DSL modem! Then it is running at ~90° but when I run SETI this goes up to ~110°!
So: No SETI or RC5 for me!
I just thought it would be nice and fun not to let my CPU power go to waste but this way? No!
Give me a better program and I will do it until then my CPU will run 99% idle!

Of course, do what you see fit. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
110 F is not too hot though. Only at 50C (122F) or higher should you worry. If it only hits 110F and it were my system, I would let it run and enjoy watching the stats. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Yeah, 110 F is fine. Not ideal, but well below the max temp spec from AMD for your chip.
A slightly better HSF and some thermal paste applied properly would probably lower this easily.
